There are weddings you photograph, and there are weddings you feel in your chest long after the last frame. Rita and Nick's day on Koh Samui was the second kind. It began the way the best island days do — slowly, softly, with the Gulf of Thailand breathing against the shore and the light already promising something special. By the time we arrived, the breeze carried that unmistakable mix of salt and frangipani, and you could sense it in the air: this was going to be a day that didn't need to try hard to be beautiful. It already was.

For us, a destination wedding on Samui is never just a job to be ticked off. It's an invitation into the most tender hours of two people's lives, on an island we've called home and worked across for twenty years. Rita and Nick had travelled a long way to say their vows here, and that decision — to marry barefoot on a beach far from home, surrounded only by the people who matter most — set the tone for everything that followed. Koh Samui knows how to host a love story. As the afternoon heat began to soften, the ceremony space came together on the beach: a simple arch dressed in white and tropical greenery, an aisle of warm sand, and behind it all the endless blue of the Gulf shifting slowly toward gold. There's a particular magic to a Samui beach in those last hours of daylight — the way the palms lean in, the way the tide pulls back to reveal a wide ribbon of shoreline, the way the whole sky seems to lower itself and glow. We've shot here for two decades, and it still stops us in our tracks. No grand staging required. The island does the heavy lifting; our job is simply to be ready when it gives you a sky like the one Rita and Nick were given.

Because we work as a husband-and-wife team — Thomas and Angela — and bring photo, cinematic video and drone together under one roof, there was never a moment of two crews tripping over each other or fighting for the same angle. We move as one. While one of us framed the stills, the other rolled film; while one stepped back for the wide drone pass lifting up over the beach and out toward the water, the other leaned in close for the detail of two wedding bands catching the last of the sun.
